2 days in Norway with Alexander Kristoff.

Earlier this month, we were ‘on the road’ to Alexander Kristoff’s hometown of Stavanger, Norway. After a victorious week at the Tour des Fjords, he allowed us to interrupt his rest days to shoot the now available winter Performance and Commuter collections.

If you’re reading this we’re hoping that, like us, for you there is no greater pleasure than spending time on your bike. At KATUSHA we are riders, it’s where we’ve come from and it’s in our blood, so we have dedicated the last year to making sure that the fun won’t stop once the mercury level falls in the thermometer!

We started with the simple question: What is going to keep us on the bike this winter?
It’s got to be technical and high performing.
It’s got to feel comfortable.
It’s got to look good, every detail.
And we are not willing to compromise on any of these factors.

It was an obvious choice to work on this project with our ambassador, Team KATUSHA Pro rider and Norwegian hero, Alexander Kristoff. It has been a long product development process with Kristoff, starting with notes on a piece of paper during the Team’s training camp in Spain last winter. It is such a unique opportunity to be able to work so closely with a Professional rider on perfecting a garment all the way from its initial concept, through to testing the final piece and taking that product to market. Kristoff has been on many long, gruelling rides, in some extremely harsh conditions, testing the winter collection. The beauty of the situation is that actually it is a pretty mutualistic relationship, resulting in ‘fit for a Pro’ products, that said Pro can now take full advantage of during the most chilly Norwegian months!

#####Day 1 - Up on a mountain shooting PERF

While it wasn’t exactly winter, for the sake of the photoshoot Kristoff was geared up with the essentials to have all weather conditions covered, including: the WARM JERSEY long sleeves coral/sangre, the WARM LONG TIGHTS black, the SUPERLIGHT base layer blue and the RACE socks white/blue.

If you haven’t already visited Norway, it’s a must! A vast, rugged and ancient-looking landscape that once on your bike, will have your mind lost for hours. Kristoff’s training route had us traversing the top of Lifjell with the ambition of mountain goats but form of a bag and equipment laden camera crew. However, as you can see it was well worth the effort; the results are stunning!

#####Day 2 - Shooting COMMUTER in the city with the Kristoff’s

Not your typical photoshoot, but instead more of a relaxed morning with Kristoff and his wife Maren in Stavanger, followed by coffee at KOKKO, a new Scandy style café hangout in the city. We actually made use of the time we had, to work together on the next steps for the Winter and Commuter collections. Fortunately for us, Kristoff’s involvement doesn’t come to an end when we have finalised a product. He will be at photoshoots, in advertising and at a number of events over the course of the winter to promote specific pieces. This close working relationship we’re able to have with him and other riders from Team KATUSHA, stretching across the entire life-cycle of a product, is what we believe makes the difference between satisfaction and excellence in each piece - every last detail, no compromise.

The Commuter collection, for men and women, has been developed specifically with the rider in mind. Everything from the technology of the fabric, to the structure of the garment and the placement of the pocket. Each piece has been designed and tested by riders, using the same knowledge that put together the Performance range, but for two urban cycling styles: ‘Very’ - bold, sophisticated and sharp, and ‘Chill’ - genuine, smooth and relaxed.

Kristoff will continue to train in the KATUSHA Warm Jersey and Bib Tights this winter in Norway, and we’re pretty sure him and Maren won’t be giving their Commuter jackets back! Come rain, wind or snow, in the middle of nowhere or in the city… We’ve got the gear to keep him and you on your bike through to next summer!
